A wake-up call

May 19, 2016 12:55 am | Updated 12:55 am IST

To those of us who are well aware of the bad state of Indian sport, the allegation made by former woman footballer Sona Chaudhury, that coaches and sports officials harass women players, comes as a bigger shock (‘Sport’ – “Former woman footballer’s book causes a stir”, May 13). It is unfortunate that besides nepotism and corruption in Indian sports, sexual gratification is also sought. Unless the sports ministry is thoroughly revamped and the committees to select sportspersons studded with real sportspersons, we cannot expect India to win laurels. We definitely have the great players and the great coaches but the only thing we lack is selfless national interest to select the right persons to represent the nation.
