Menace of corruption

November 29, 2009 11:36 pm | Updated 11:37 pm IST

Vice-President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has given a clarion call to eschew corruption that has grown to monstrous proportions and has become the cancer of our society (Nov. 23). The instances of corruption about which we read everyday may just be the tip of the iceberg. Declaration of assets by all officials and citizens is one way to minimise corruption. Why not demonetise large denominations, say the 1,000-rupee and 500-rupee notes, and introduce biometric smart cards to track all big money transactions?
