A jawan’s grievance

January 13, 2017 11:56 pm | Updated 11:56 pm IST

After the BSF jawan’s video clip on the “poor quality of food” being served to jawans emerged, there have been a few more that have surfaced (“What’s cooking in the BSF?”, Jan.13). The intervention by the Prime Minister’s Office should not result in a cover-up. The move to give the whole issue a political hue is unwarranted and the claim that more attention is being paid to the plight of jawans is laughable. Mobile apps in the hands of jawans should not be misused at a time when India has a tense relationship with neighbouring countries.

Happenings in the armed forces continue to make news for all the wrong reasons. Most prominent have been unappeased veterans protesting and demanding pay parity through OROP, the controversial appointment of the Army Chief, and now, a case that shows the dismal condition of our jawans. The government should ensure the well-being of those who ensure the security of the nation.
