All-woman rail staff

As part of the woman empowerment drive undertaken by Ministry of Railways, the Ajni station in Nagpur will be ‘manned’ by all-woman staff from March 8, 2018, International Women’s Day. According to the Nagpur division of the Central Railway, the aim is to provide equal footing in service to woman employees. The duties of the staff include sale of tickets and ticket checking.

U.S. actor Meghan Markle has been baptised by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual head of the Church of England, ahead of her royal wedding in May to Britain’s Prince Harry, the Daily Mail newspaper reported on March 8. The 45-minute ceremony conducted by Justin Welby, spiritual head of the Anglican communion of millions of Christians globally, took place at the Chapel Royal at St. James’s Palace on March 6, the paper said. The secret baptism was followed immediately by her confirmation, it added.

A record 650 athletes from 49 countries are taking part, up from about 570 at the last Winter Paralympics in Sochi. They are competing in 80 medal events across six sports -- alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, snowboard and wheelchair curling. One of the most popular spectator sports is para ice hockey, also known as sledge ice hockey. Alpine skiing and snowboarding are also favourites with spectators. There are no new sports in Pyeongchang but eight new events have been added to snowboarding.

A Maersk container ship with 27 crew members on board, including 13 Indians, caught fire in the Arabian Sea near Agatti in the Lakshadweep islands on Tuesday night. Four members of the crew, including one Indian, were reported missing even as efforts were on to put out the massive blaze.
