‘Yoga a gift from Indian tradition’

Practice sessions mark the celebrations in Rajamahendravaram

Yoga is an invaluable gift from India’s ancient tradition as it embodies the union of mind and body, said Rajamahendravaram MLA Akula Satyanarayana. Addressing a huge gathering at Subrahmanya Maidan on the occasion of International Yoga Day here on Thursday, he said that harmony between thought and action, restraint and fulfilment, man and nature, is a holistic approach to good health and wellbeing and it is possible through practising yoga.

He further said that as people of this era didn’t have ample time for attending gym and attend fitness classes. But, yoga is a blessing for all. “Practising yoga needs no infrastructure, gadgets or instruments. All you need is a quiet space and a mat,” Dr. Akula added.

Good health and peace

Rural MLA Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary, another guest at the celebrations, said pratising yoga aligns body, mind and energies paving the way for good health and peace.

Yoga can be beneficial for those suffering from lifestyle related ailments and fitness disorders, he said.

Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai, Sub-Collector C.M. Saikantha Varma, Municipal Commissioner Sumit Kumar Gandhi, corporators, Homeo College principal Surya Bhagavan, Aditya College students, NGOs and several other organisations practised yoga for more than an hour.

Yoga sessions planned for ONGC staff

The ONGC, Rajahmundry Asset celebrated the day. Speaking on the occasion, D.M.R. Sekhar, Executive Director and Asset Manager, said yoga sessions would be planned in the ONGC operational fields soon to beat the stress level of the employees and increase their productivity.

Referring to the historic roots of yoga, Mr. Sekhar said the science has its origin in the Indus Valley civilization era dating back to 2700 BC and the seals found during the excavations have confirmed this.

The Rajahmundry Asset organised a yoga session for the employees, Special Protection Force and children of Kendirya Vidyalaya.

Diploma course

Adikavi Nannaya University, in association with GSL Medical College, celebrated the International Yoga Day on the GSL College grounds. Speaking on this occasion, M. Mutyala Naidu, Vice-Chancellor of the university, said that one must practise yoga to tune the body and mind .

Presiding over the event, Dr. Ganni Bhaskar Rao said that GSL Medical College had introduced a diploma course in yoga by forging a tie-up with the Nannaya University. Bharatiya Vidha Bhavan also celebrated the yoga day.
