Four workers were killed when an elevator at the Chettinad Cement factory in Keezhapazhur near here crashed on Friday evening.
Manimaran (24), Mohan (20), Sathyaraj (25) and John (35) succumbed to injuries while being rushed to hospital.
Ariyalur Superintendent of Police Najmul Hoda, who visited the spot, said that investigation was on to determine if the accident was caused by human negligence.
Relatives of the victims staged a demonstration in front of the Ariyalur Government Hospital demanding that the post-mortem be conducted and the bodies handed over immediately along with compensation.
