Police directed to probe complaint against Selvi’s son-in-law

The Madras High Court has directed the police to investigate a complaint from a person that he was cheated by another in a matter relating to purchase of a piece of land at Thalambur village.

In the petition, V. Nedumaran of Valasaravakkam here, said one V.M. Jothimani, son-in-law of a former Chief Minister’s daughter, claimed to be the power agent of 2.94 acres in the village and promised him to sell the property for Rs. 5.14 crore. The petitioner said he paid an advance of Rs. 3.50 crore. After receiving the sum, the petitioner alleged, that Mr. Jothimani did not execute the sale. He did not return the money also.

Instead, he started threatening the petitioner. Thereafter he went to the principal owner, Ms. Selvi, mother-in-law of Mr. Jothimani, where he alleged that he was attacked.

He lodged a complaint dated September 21 last year with the City Police Commissioner, who in turn forwarded it to the Deputy Commissioner of Police and the Inspector, T. Nagar. His complaint was not registered to initiate action against the person concerned for cheating and breach of trust.

Justice A. Arumughaswamy directed the T. Nagar police to investigate the complaint after enquiring both the parties.
