Difficulties in ensuring security for the expected large turnout, proximity of the conference venue to a government hospital and the possibility of sympathisers of the outlawed LTTE joining it were the among the main reasons cited by the Chennai police on Saturday for denying permission for the conduct of the Tamil Eelam Supporters’ Organisation meet at YMCA, Royapettah.
According to a letter issued by Joint Commissioner of Police (East) S. N. Seshasai to the conference president and DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan, ‘Tamil Eelam’ was the objective of the proscribed Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, and there was information that LTTE members and representatives from other terrorists organisations might take part in the TESO conference. “This could lead to a threat to national security and public order, the letter said. The letter said the venue did not have the capacity to house over one lakh persons expected to attend the conference. The venue’s capacity was only 8,000 persons and accommodation of more would lead to a law and order situation.
The letter also stated that the YMCA ground has only two entry-exit points, one used by VVIPs, leaving only one for the participants.
Moreover, the traffic situation caused by the conference and the sound from speakers used in it would be a hindrance to patients at the Government Royapettah Hospital located opposite the YMCA grounds.
The Thousand Lights mosque, Wesley Church and cinema halls and shopping malls located close to the prescribed conference would attract large crowds on a Sunday and it would be a hindrance to public. Vehicular traffic will be thrown out of gear as main roads near the conference venue have been made one-way due to the ongoing Chennai Metro Rail Limited construction work. In case of over a lakh people attending the conference, more than 1,500 vehicles are expected to be present. The Wesley School grounds prescribed for vehicle parking arrangement would not be enough as it can accommodate only around 250 vehicles.

It is a very good decision on the part of the police to deny permission
for the 'Teso' meet being organized by the DMK leader.The avowed
intention on the part of the organizers is to somehow paralyse the public
transportation and cause considerable inconvenience to the general
public.Every organizational meet of every party in Tamilnadu in the past
only ended up in causing untold misery to the common public.In fact
the political leaders measure the success of their organizational meet
in terms of the iinconvenience caused to the common man.

Whether it happens or not it will be used for political mileage by DMK.
Basically DMK is trying to get some attention and media should not be
influenced by it. Ideally this is not worth covering and to be ignored.
The Centre was a collaborator and the DMK did not take any action to protect the Eelam Tamils when the SL regime committing war crimes and human rights abuses. Tamils aware that the TESO is an eye wash and not for the benefit of the Tamils. Well done Selvi Jeyalalithaa to ban this event and it is important that Tamil Nationalism and Tamil should start their spring to be free from the corrupt and criminal minded Centre.
Today the word Ealam? Tomorrow the centre will say don't use the word

It is good that this meet has been stopped, because this is nothing but
another well scripted drama by Mr karunanidhi, he had a great opportunity to save the lives of Tamilians while he was in power. Now he
is wants to their savior after being responsible for their defeat.
Even now the great old man karuna who will do anything just for his personal gains will not
realize how he is making a fool of himself if teso is conducted.it is high time some other
political force emerges in tamilnadu.
He betrayed the srilankan Tamils when in power now he wants to again fool everybody.but
please understand everybody is tired of ur tactics.

This TESO meeting must have been conducted when M.Karunanidhi was the
chief minister so that any meaningful political and social benefits
would have helped the poor Srilankan Tamils who suffered untold
miseries from the Srilankan army.Now after three years to whose sake
TESO is being organised ?It is now only a grave yard left in Tamil
Eelam.What he has done to the Tamils all those years when he was in
power?Had he pulled out his centrl ministers from the UPA and his MPs
resigned atleast another ceasefire might have come in Srilanka and a
political solution evolved.DR.M.K virtually ditched the Tamil
fraternity in Eelam only to benefit his son Alagiri,daughter
Kanimozhi,A.Raja and his D.M.K. party.M.Karunanidhi enacted fasting

I salute the state for denying permission for this unwanted act of
Karunanidhi. He did't raise a finger when thousands of tamils were
killed during his reign as CM. Why is he trying to show him as a messiah
of Srilankan tamils now. I think Tamil Nadu politicians and people are
too emotionally involved in the Srilankan Tamil problem but what they
don't realize is that the tamils from northern province doesn't have
any respect for the Tamil Nadu people.

While the State's objection for the proposed meet is understandable as indeed the crowd will be enormous and unmanageable with tempers rising high,i am unable tounderstand the centre s objection for the use of the word EELAM as similar concern was not voiced by the centre when Kashmir separatists held a highly seditious meet on Lashmir separation and no such pobjection was raised on the seditios agend that was clearly forthe debate then.in the final analysis both the DMK and AIDMK have failed the Tamils in Srilanka by not prevailing upon the Tamil separatists to give up their separate state demand and instead work forgreater devolutionof powes within the srilankan constitution,which could have avoideda collosal human tragedyinstead of shedding crocadile tears now on Tamils plightnow.
