Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday ruled out his party joining any alliance for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, and said “the time has come for his party to heal the wound caused by 45 years of rule by the Dravidian parties in the State.”
“We will go it alone. If joining hands with any of the Dravidian parties is out of question, we also have no intention of forming an alliance with national parties. In fact, we are averse to the word Dravidian as these parties had done enormous damage to the cultural, social and economic development of the State,” Dr. Ramadoss said.
Addressing a public meeting here, he said the PMK would consider joining hands with small political parties that share its political views.
Asked whether his decision to go it alone in the polls would not result in helping one Dravidian party or the other, the PMK leader said the people would support his party as an alternative to the Dravidian parties.
“It is time to heal the wound that are running so deep,” he stressed.
3 vital areas neglected
Dr. Ramadoss said the Dravidian rule had neglected three vital areas – education, universal health care and agriculture sector – and promoted liquor, film culture and freebies to retain power.
The PMK leader said on the one hand the government was distributing freebies to the people and on the other hand it was taking back the money by selling liquor to the citizens.
