Congress MLA Varadhan dead

The sitting Congress MLA from Chengam, Polur M. Varadhan, died at a private nursing home here on Thursday after a brief illness.

He was 59 and is survived by wife and son.

Varadhan was elected twice to the State Assembly, in 1991 (from Sriperumbudur) and 2001 (from Chengam).

He was a former president of the State Youth Congress and a former secretary of the All India Congress SC\ST division. Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K.V. Thangkabalu were among those who visited Varadhan's residence at Adyar to pay homage.
