The investigation into the triple murder of All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) district students’ wing secretary M G Kathiresan, his son and driver has been transferred to the Crime Branch CID police, even as the District Police formed five special teams to crack the case.

After the case was transferred to the CB CID, its Deputy Inspector General (DIG) C Sridhar and South Zone Superintendent of Police S Rajeswari visited on Friday evening the spot at Nedunkulam on Sivaganga-Ilayankudi highway, where the murder took place on Wednesday night around 9 45 pm.

As the district police launched the investigation into the gruesome murder after forming five special teams, headed by DSPs and comprising ADSPs and Inspectors of Police on Thursday evening, the case has been transferred to the CB CID, District SP M Panneerselvam said.

Special teams had commenced the investigation. An unidentified armed gang had hacked to death the AIADMK functionary, his son Prasanna (11) and driver Boominathan, while inflicting serious cut injuries on his daughter Nikila (7). Kathiresan was returning home with his children and brother M G Krishnan after celebrating Deepavali in his native village, near Periya Kannanur, when the gang, armed with deadly weapons waylaid their car and attacked. Krishnan, however, managed to escape.

Based on the complaint given by him, the district police had filed a FIR against 30 people, including S Gunasekaran, Sivaganga Communist Party of India (CPI) MLA, and former Periya Kannanur Pachayat President Arjunan. Krishnan had alleged that the murder was instigated by Gunasekaran to settle political scores, but the latter denied his involvement in the crime.
