Sadhvi Pragnya Singh Thakur, accused in the 2008 Malegaon blasts case, moved a special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court here on Monday requesting permission to travel to Bhopal by air or in an air-conditioned train coach for her scheduled appearance in a court there. She expressed willingness to bear the expenses.
Ms. Thakur, currently lodged in Mumbai's high-security Arthur Road jail, is required to be produced before the special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court on February 2, in connection with the murder case of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh activist Sunil Joshi.
Citing health reasons, the application filed by her lawyer Ganesh Sovani seek the court's directions to the jail authorities to make arrangements for her travel from Mumbai to Bhopal “either by second AC or first class by railway or by air.”
“The accused no. 1 [Ms. Thakur] is placing on record that if any procedural hitch is going to come in her way, then she is willing to bear the expenses of the escort party of their AC travel and also by air, by raising the money from her relatives and friends,” the application says.
