‘CBI had failed to file chargesheet against erring SIT members’

Residents of Shimla, Theog and Kotkhai, who had formed a ‘Gudiya Nyay Manch’ on Tuesday took to the streets in protest against the delay in nabbing the real culprits in the school girl rape and murder case. The members of the organisation along with Shimla Nagrik Sabha activists protested outside the CBI’s Shimla office. The body of the girl was found on July 6 in a forest near her school in Halaila in Kotkhai.

Heavy police force was deployed near the protest venue.

They said the real culprits in the case had not been nabbed by any of the agencies so far. Convener of the forum Vijendra Mehra asked why the CBI had failed to file a chargesheet against erring Special Investigation Team (SIT) members. Nine police officers had been arrested so far by the CBI. But the pace with which the enquiry was going on had raised many a question, he alleged.

The body of the girl was found on July 6 in a forest near her school in Halaila in Kotkhai, an apple rich belt of Shimla district.

Mr. Mehra said the forum would continue its struggle until the family of the minor girl got justice.

Produced in court

Meanwhile, the suspended former Superintendent of Police of Shimla, D.W. Negi, was produced in a CBI Court on Tuesday and the agency sought his further remand for 5 days. But the court granted his judicial remand till November 23 and ordered to produce him on that day along with eight other police officials.

Mr. Negi was arrested on November 16. The agency has been told to file the chargesheet against the accused police officials before November 30.
