Rain improves water level in reservoirs

The heavy rain that lashed many parts of Coimbatore district has improved the water level in reservoirs.

Water from Noyyal submerged many low level areas in Tirupur district. The river was in spate in 2011 and 2014.

The rain brought down compound walls in many parts of Coimbatore. In the last 24-hours that ended at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday, the district recorded a total rainfall of 383.20 mm.

The following is the rain received in other parts of he district: Chinnakallar 7 mm, Cincona 30, Valparai PAP 66, Valparai taluk office 68, Pollachi 15, Mettuppalayam 6.40, Coimbatore South 49, Sulur 88, Peelamedu Airport 22.6, TNAU 19.20, Annur 4 and Periyanaickenpalayam 8mm.

Rainfall recorded in the Parambkulam - Aliyar Project areas is as follows: Upper Nirar 7mm, Lower Nirar 28, Sircarpathy 12, Vettaikaranpudur 15.4, Thoonakadavu 7, Peruvaripallam 9, Upper Aliyar 4, Kangeyam 118, Pollachi PAP 19, Nallaru 8, Negamam 20, Sultanpet 19, Pongalur 46, Upparu 25, and Palladam 48mm.

The water level in Siruvani dam stood at 35.26 as against the full level of 50 ft. Pilllor dam has 87.25 ft of water as against the full level of 100 ft.

The following is the water level in other dams: Sholayar 105.37 ft against the full reservoir level of 160 ft; Parambikulam 29.02 ft against 72 ft; and Aliyar 77.50 ft against 120 ft; Thirumurthy 55.99 ft against 60 ft; Amaravathy dam 67.10 ft against 90 ft.

Many check dams in Noyyal are full.

A bridge linking Poolavari Sugumar Nagar and Karumarampalayam remained completely submerged. PWD officials said that more than 2,000 cusecs of water was flowing in Noyyal. It may go up if rain continue for some more hours.

Mangalam Nallamman koil got completely submerged in the flood water after several years.

A wall of a house at Aandipalayam collapsed.

Flood water entered the Iduvai Higher Secondary School. Students blocked road and later a holiday was declared for the school.

Fire and Rescue Services personnel rescued a hosiery worker Tulsiraj (30) from Noyyal. Citizens offered flowers and performed aarti at many parts along Noyyal.
