Panaji: The North Goa district administration on Friday extended the ban on Pramod Muthalik, chief of Mangalore-based right-wing Hindu outfit Sri Ram Sene, for 60 days with effect from Friday.

“The step has been taken to prevent every possibility of disturbance to law and order and danger to public safety due to their aggressive statements or speeches that could hurt the sentiments of certain groups of the public and instigate violence, thus adversely affecting public peace and tranquillity,” said the order issued by North Goa District Magistrate Nila Mohanan on Monday.

The order issued as per Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, bans his associates too from entering Goa.

The entry of Mr. Muthalik to the coastal tourist state has been banned since 2014, after the activist said that he proposed to set up a branch of the Sir Ram Sene, and will work towards banning nightlife and pubs.

Mr. Muthalik has already challenged the ban in the Supreme Court, and last week, the apex court had issued a notice to the State government seeking an explanation.
