Karshaka Congress to stage dharna

September 23, 2012 02:45 am | Updated 02:46 am IST - KANNUR:

The Kerala Pradesh Karshaka Congress (KPKC) will stage a farmers’ dharna in front of the collectorate here on Monday.

The Act was unanimously passed by the United Democratic Front government in 2005 and approved by the President in 2006. Despite this, the Left Democratic Front government which came to power subsequently failed to implement the Act, KPKC office-bearers said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Provision of title-deeds to farmers and other workers, protection of tribespeople by implementing the Forest Rights Act, and controlling the prices of chemical fertilizers were the other demands of KPKC. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary E.M. Agasthi will inaugurate the dharna. Sunny Joseph, MLA; KPCC secretary Satheeshan Pacheni, and KPKC office-bearers would take part.
