IUML: Khamarunnissa to be chief of Social Welfare Board

October 05, 2012 04:26 am | Updated October 18, 2016 01:07 pm IST - Kozhikode:

The Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leadership has sought an explanation from Khamarunnisa Anwar, who has been removed from the post of chairperson of the State Women’s Development Corporation, for her recent controversial remarks against Minister for Social Welfare and party leader M.K. Muneer.

While disclosing Ms. Anwar was being asked to give an explanation for her “irresponsible statements to the media,” K.P.A. Majeed, IUML State general secretary, said here on Thursday that media reports that suggested she was fired from the post because of differences with Dr. Muneer and Managing Director of the State Women’s Development Corporation P.T.M. Sunish were baseless. He said Mr. Sunish was also being asked to quit.

Mr. Majeed said Ms. Anwar had been removed from the post to enable her to take a new assignment as chairperson of the Social Welfare Board. This had been decided by the IUML leadership. The State government had recommended her name for the post and it had been approved by the Central government, he added.
