The Onam Week celebrations in the district organised jointly by the Tourism Department and the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) will begin on Sunday with a colourful cultural procession.

Kollam Beach will be the main venue of the celebrations. District Collector P.G. Thomas, who is also the chairman of the DTPC, said that eminent musicians and dancers would add colour to the festivities. Apart from the main venue, the DTPC would organise celebrations at Punalur, Paravur and Karunagapally too. The cultural procession would begin from Anandawalleshwaram on Sunday evening.

Kollam MP N. Peethambara Kurup would flag off the procession. A ‘pulikali’ presentation, by a team from Thrissur, would be among the main attractions of the procession. ‘Karadikkali,’ panchavadyam, theyyam and caparisoned tuskers would accompany the procession, he said. The celebrations would be formally inaugurated on August 27.
