The Government was trying to disburse the financial assistance under the National Family Welfare Scheme as well as the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to all the applicants before Onam festival itself, said Revenue Minister, Adoor Prakash.
The Minister was distributing the financial assistance to 327 beneficiaries in the district at a function held at the collectorate conference hall here on Saturday afternoon.
A total of 303 persons have got financial assistance worth Rs 10,000 each under the National Family Welfare Scheme and 24 others have got relief worth a total of Rs 16,85,000 from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund on the occasion.
Mr Prakash said the Government was also exploring the possibility of accepting applications from those eligible persons who could not file it before the expiry of deadline fixed for the same.
He said the Government was committed to extend every possible assistance to the poor and the needy.
The State Government has also requested the Union Government to increase the financial assistance under the National Family Welfare Scheme by Rs 10,000, he added.
K. Sivadasan Nair, MLA, presided the function. Benny Puthenparambil, Ranni Block Panchayat president; H. Salimraj, Additional District Magistrate; V.R. Vinod, Adoor Revenue Divisional Officer; were among those who addressed the meeting.
