Mar Osthathios laid to rest

Geevarghese Mar Osthathios, senior Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, who passed away at Parumala on Thursday was

laid to rest in a specially constructed crypt at the St. Paul's Mission Centre chapel at Mavelikara, near here, on Saturday.

The funeral procession reached the Pathichira St. John's Church, Mavelikara, the home parish of Mar Osthathios, on Saturday, where the eighth part of the funeral service was held. The last leg of the funeral procession began by 2.30 p.m. and the closing service was held at the Mission Centre chapel later. Catholicos of the East and Malankara Metropolitan Baselius Mar Thoma Paulose II and Baselius Mar Thoma Didymus I, former Catholicos, jointly led the service in the presence of bishops of the Malankara Church and a large gathering of people from across the State.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy; Union Minister of State for Power K.C. Venugopal; Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president Ramesh Chennithala; Left Democratic Front convener Vaikom Viswan; CPI(M) district secretary C.B. Chandrababu; P.J.Kurien, MP; were present.
