Achuthanandan: UDF undermining PSC

November 18, 2012 02:45 am | Updated 02:45 am IST - THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

Leader of the Opposition V.S. Achuthanandan has accused the United Democratic Front (UDF) government of abandoning the decision to make University and Devaswom recruitments through the Public Service Commission (PSC) in order to ‘enable bribery in the recruitment system’.

He was inaugurating a Secretariat sit-in by PSC employees under the umbrella of organisations such as the PSC Employees Union, PSC Staff Association, and PSC Employees Sangh here on Saturday.

Mr. Achuthanandan said the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government had declared that the PSC rank lists would be published within one year of calling applications, and for which 101 posts were created.

The LDF, in order to do away with malpractice in recruitment, had also constituted a recruitment monitoring system.

He said that it was unfortunate that the PSC, which handled complex, extensive and time-bound duties, was short of staff. The LDF had initiated proceedings to hand over University and Devaswom recruitments to the PSC. However, the UDF government was now attempting to set up a separate board for Devaswom recruitments through an ordinance, apart from dropping the idea of the PSC handling university recruitments.

Demanding that the government should desist from moves that would be detrimental to the PSC, he said it should allow the promised posts.

CPI assistant State unit secretary C.N. Chandran, BJP State unit secretary K. Surendran, and former Minister Mullakkara Ratnakaran spoke, a press release said.
