Protests in Gulbarga over denial of BJP ticket to Revoor family

The decision of the Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to nominate Chairman of the High Power Committee for the Implementation of the Recommendations of the Nanjundappa Committee Shashil G. Namoshi for contesting in the byelections to the Gulbarga South Assembly Constituency has sparked off a revolt in the party ranks.

Supporters of the late Chandrasekhar Patil, two-time MLA, whose death necessitated the byelections, did not hide their displeasure over the denial of the party ticket to either Aruna Patil Revoor, wife of Chandrasekhar Patil Revoor, or his elder son Dattatreya Patil Revoor, a sitting Zilla Panchayat member. Even as the news about the selection of Mr. Namoshi as the party candidate started trickling in last night, the supporters of Mr. Revoor. who had collected in front of his house, started reacting angrily by shouting slogans against Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and party president K.S. Eashwarappa.
