The city unit of the Janata Dal (Secular) on Friday took out a motorcycle rally, demanding immediate appointment of the Lokayukta.
The protesters also sought to adapt scientific measures for clearing the garbage piling up across the city.
The rally was led by party’s State working president P.G.R. Sindhia along with city unit leaders Narayana Rao and Narayanaswamy. The rally which commenced from Rajarajeswari temple, concluded near Freedom Park.
Over 1,000 Janata Dal (Secular) workers rode their bikes in the thoroughfares of the city and raised slogans against the apathy of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in appointing a Lokayukta. Later, the leaders submitted a memorandum to Governor H.R. Bhardwaj.
Addressing the workers, Mr. Sindhia alleged the Government was not prepared to appoint a Lokayukta, as many of party leaders and Ministers were involved in various scandals. “It is an attempt to protect the interest of party leaders,” he said.
Similarly people in the city were disappointed with the way Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) handled the garbage issue. It was time the issue was addressed on priority, he added.
