July 24, 2012 01:28 am | Updated 01:28 am IST - DHARWAD:

Journalist Patil Puttappa has stressed the need for parents and grandparents to ensure that children were brought up in right manner.

Inaugurating a seminar on grandparenting organised by the R.K. Foundation, the Children’s Academy, the Senior Citizens Welfare Trust and the Karnatak Vidyavardhakh Sangha here on Sunday, Mr. Puttappa said every parent and grandparent should try to give the best care to children. They should keep in mind the interests of children while fulfilling their own wishes, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, resource person S.B. Torgal explained the responsibility of grandparents towards their grandchildren in modern society. He said that apart from physical care, emotional care was also essential. The role of a grandparent should be that of a caretaker rather than the dictator, he said.

President of Children Academy Rajan Deshpande said that a child needed timely love, security and guidance at every stage of life. Parents and grandparents should participate in such seminars and motivate themselves, he said.
