Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda announced here on Monday that the State government would shortly recruit 5,000 police constables, including 200 to the Coastal Security Force (CSF).
Mr. Gowda made the announcement at the Police Flag Day celebrations organised by Karnataka State Police Department, where 98 police personnel were awarded the Chief Minister's medal.
Mr. Gowda, after conferring the medals, said an order had been issued in this regard. The Government would take steps to provide housing facilities to the police personnel.
KSRP hospital
A sum of Rs. 1 crore has been earmarked in the budget to upgrade the KSRP Hospital in the city, Mr. Gowda said.
The Chief Minister said that the government will honour the police personnel with promotions if they bring laurels to the State in national and international level events.
“We will take steps to strengthen and modernise the police department. The government will try hard to provide better facilities, including housing facilities, along with basic amenities including, regular supply of drinking water to police personnel,” the Chief Minister said.
He praised the police department for maintaining law and order in the State.
Mr. Gowda gave away the medals to the officers and reviewed the guard of honour. The programme began with a parade by personnel of the City Armed Reserve (CAR), Karnataka Police Band, District Armed Reserve (DAR), civil police, English Band from Mysore, traffic police, women police and Canine Squad.
Flag Day
April 2 is celebrated as Police Flag Day since 1955, after the Karnataka Police Act was passed on that day.
