The Post Graduate Entrance Test (PGET) for admissions to medical and dental courses in the State will be conducted on January 29, amid a slew of security measures that have been taken up in the wake of the controversy last year.
The examination, which had found itself in the midst of a controversy and court battle that extended well into the admission and counselling process, will now be recorded and monitored on CCTV in real-time.
This follows introspection by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, after “wide-spread, mass cheating” was reported at its Bellary testing centre last year.
Only in Bangalore
As many as 11,281 candidates have applied for the examination, including those taking the examination in the general and the “in-service” category.
Of these, 2,171 are appearing for dental courses.
This year, the examination will be held only in Bangalore. It will be held in eight centres, including the one on the RGUHS campus.
The examination, which is slated to be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be streamed live over the web, which will be monitored by supervisors at RGUHS.
Sriprakash K.S., Vice-Chancellor, RGUHS, announced: “All our examination centres have been equipped with CCTVs, which will stream the proceedings of the examination live.”
He added that one chief superintendent has been appointed for each centre, one deputy superintendent for every 250 candidates, and one room superintendent for every four blocks (each block comprises 16 candidates).
Security and police force will be stepped up at each centre, he said.
Biometrics
Dr. Sriprakash said that to minimise human error, the entire process from registrations to issuing applications was shifted online. During the time of counselling, biometrics will be used to indentify candidates.
Dr. Sriprakash announced that a help-desk has been set up for candidates to guide them.
