Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) planned to add 3,000 new buses to its fleet during this year, Minister for Transport and Home R Ashoka said today.

The newly-purchased buses would be operated in rural areas as the government had decided to extend transport services to commuters from there, he told reporters here.

During this year, KSRTC earned Rs 65 crore profit and Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation about Rs 50 crore profit, he said.

There was a proposal to build a bus terminus and hotel near the Bengaluru International Airport, he said.

Mr. Ashoka dubbed as a ‘political stunt’ the claims by JDS leader H D Kumaraswamy that Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa tried to buy peace with him.
