The trial of the case pertaining to the suspicious death of a British teenager in 2008, will begin at the Goa Children's Court here on Monday.
The British minor's body was found in a semi-nude condition on the Anjuna Beach of north Goa early on February 18, 2008. The 15-year-old girl was on a holiday in Goa along with her mother and other siblings.
Ten witnesses who saw the teenager's body lying on the beach will begin testifying in the case . A list of 71 witnesses prepared by the prosecution includes the girl's Goan boyfriend Julio Lobo, Spanish friend Ruby Caso and mother Fiona Mackeown.
Two chargesheeted
Two persons — Samson D'Souza (28)and Placido Carvalho (36) have been chargesheeted last month for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, destroying evidence, outraging modesty and administering drugs with criminal force.
After the mother of the deceased, Ms. Mackeown questioned the credibility of the ongoing Goa police investigations in the death of her daughter, the case was handed over by the State to Central Bureau of Investiation (CBI) in June 2008.
While the Goa police filed the first chargesheet in the case, the CBI filed a supplementary chargesheet in the Goa Children's Court in October 2009.
Goa police sub inspector Nerlon Albuquerque, then in-charge of the Anjuna police station, was suspended and subsequently dismissed from service for probing the case negligently. He was reinstated a year later. An initial flip-flop by Goa's investigating agencies also resulted in a second autopsy of the body, and the suspension of the government doctor who conducted the first autopsy.
