In two separate incidents on Friday, five persons, including two school students, drowned in water bodies in Erode district.

M. Nagaraj (28) of Bharathiar Street along with wife Prema (25), their neighbours and relatives went to the Skandasramam Murugan Temple in Ammapet in a van.

After reaching the temple, Nagaraj, Prema, and Suganya (24), their neighbour, decided to take a bath.

They found a quarry pit having water. Since the three did not know swimming, Nagaraj entered the water and was taking bath. Later, both Prema and Suganya entered the water. Both got drowned. Efforts by Nagaraj to save them failed and he too got drowned. Their relatives found their dress near the pit.

With the help of the local residents and Fire and Rescue Services personnel, bodies were recovered.

In another incident, J. Vignesh (15) of Thottampatti in Tharamangalam, along with his friend S. Gowtham (15) of Desavilakku village went to take bath in a lake, located 4 km away from their area.

Before the local residents could rescue them, they drowned.
