The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Sunday urged Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram not to “indulge in politics” on the naxal issue.
Referring to his statement on the ruling Left Front's handling of the law and order situation, the party said the nexus between the Trinamool Congress, a Congress ally, and the Maoists was well known.
In a statement here, CPI national secretary D. Raja said there should be better coordination between the State government and the Union Home Ministry in the fight against the militants. If there was any gap, the Centre could always take up it with the Chief Minister.
Referring to Mr. Chidambaram's statement that there was a threat to internal security from the left-wing extremists, Mr. Raja said this was a national issue. Talking to the Maoists was an option, he said, recalling the Andhra Pradesh government's negotiations with the naxals in 2004.
