Buoyed by the success of prestigious global events in Hyderabad in recent times, particularly the COP-11, the State Government is all set to bid for hosting the sixth edition of Common Youth Parliament (CYP) 2013.
The CYP is the commitment of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) to provide an opportunity to the young Parliamentarians of Commonwealth countries to further engage with politics and parliamentary democracy. Young Parliamentarians in the age group of 18-29 years from over 150 Commonwealth countries are selected to participate in the CYP.
It aims at giving youth parliamentarians an opportunity to understand parliamentary practice and procedure. It enables them to lead and take part in a range of parliamentary processes including committees and parliamentary style debates. The idea is to encourage participation in the political process.
Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar will make a strong pitch for hosting the CYP-2013 in Hyderabad during his participation in the fifth edition of the CYP in London beginning December 3. He reportedly discussed the ambitious plan with Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy. Sources said the CPA delegation from United Kingdom that had visited Hyderabad some time back was impressed by the facilities here. It was pointed out that chairman of the delegation Sir Alan Haselhurst had even advised Mr. Manohar to make a presentation at the CYP in London. “The CPA United Kingdom felt that Hyderabad was an ideal venue to hold such event. The Chief Minister is also keen that the State Capital should be given its due,” Mr. Manohar told The Hindu on Monday.
A.P Legislative Assembly is member of CPA and the State branch was formed in 1968. Council Chairman A. Chakrapani and Speaker Manohar are joint presidents while the Chief Minister is the vice-president.
