Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday said his government pitched for a quick decision on Telangana issue.
Responding to a question on whether he got any indication on the issue during his recent visit to New Delhi, Mr. Reddy said the visit was primarily for providing information sought by the AICC leadership and the Central government.
He would not talk about any indication but the request from the State government was for a faster decision. He was critical of the speculation in the media about his meetings with senior party leaders in Delhi when the specific purpose was to furnish information.
Addressing a press conference on party’s “stupendous” performance in cooperative elections, along with a majority of his Cabinet colleagues including PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, Mr. Reddy said Municipal elections would be held soon after the AP High Court cleared the pending cases.
He was confident of the Congress repeating the feat achieved in the cooperative elections. “We will show our strength in Municipal elections too.” He was also sure of party-backed candidates winning majority of the District Cooperative Central Banks with local leaders coming to understanding with other parties.
Asked how he saw his party doing well in cooperative elections while MLAs were leaving the party, Mr. Reddy said it was for the Assembly Speaker to take a decision on the MLAs’ resignation and he would not make any comment. “We are prepared for any election. There is no going back.”
On price rise, especially of rice and other essential commodities, the Chief Minister said the Civil Supplies department was taking all necessary steps to check them.
Though the government was buying paddy and other foodgrains at a higher price from farmers, it would ensure that the common man remained unaffected.
