In a shocking incident of a similar nature witnessed a year ago, four children breathed their last in less than 24 hours at the paediatric super specialty ward of Sri Venkateswara Ramnarain Ruia Government General Hospital here till Wednesday noon.
A three-month-old infant from Mangalam village admitted on January 5 died due to a neurodevelopment condition called microcephaly. Another infant, six months old, died of pneumonia. The two children were initially treated for some time in private clinics and were advised to approach the general hospital after the situation turned worse. Two newborns, one hailing from Yerpedu mandal of Chittoor district and the other from Rapur mandal of Nellore district, also died within a few hours on Wednesday.
Hospital authorities attributed the deaths to the serious nature of the ailments and not due to negligence on their part.
