It was a splash of colours that brought the imaginative powers of schoolchildren to the fore at the drawing competitions organised by Bala Bhavan here on Saturday.

The children vied with one another in coming out with the best of drawings in which they sought to portray the country’s national leaders and also capture nature. Children from different schools took part in the competition with enthusiasm.

The Bala Bhavan authorities organised the event as part of the Children’s Day celebrations to be held on November 14.

Most of the children drew pictures of Chacha Nehru, who used to be very fond of both children and roses. To mark this, Nehru’s birthday is being celebrated as Children’s Day.

Bala Bhavan director G. Subhadra Devi said that the day marked the celebration of memorable phase of childhood and Nehruji’s love for children.

Ms. Subhadra Devi said that besides the drawing contest, many other competitions were held in fancy dress and other events. Parents arrived with their children to witness the day’s events.

Doves released

Fun events were organised on the occasion when the children played with balloons and released them into the sky. Doves were also released by the children to commemorate the significance of the day. The schoolchildren said that it was an unforgettable day for them as they could meet those from other schools and compete with them in a friendly manner. Some children became the centre of attraction as they came dressed as Chacha Nehru, wearing a Gandhi cap and pinned a rose on their chest pockets.
