The road between Raichur and Mantralayam was washed away on account of flood in the Tungabhadra river on Sunday. The river received a moderate flood at Mantralayam on account of rain in the catchment area and releases from Tungabhadra dam.
Flood level
According to reports, the flood level in the river was recorded as 1.3 metres accounting for 10,000 cusecs by Sunday evening. The road was washed away a month ago too.
The bridge connecting the two places was breached by a massive flood in October 2009. The bridge remained incomplete since and a gravel road was laid on the riverbed to restore temporary communication. The road communication would remain cut-off during the monsoon between Mantralayam and Raichur.
The only available mode of communication now between the two places is rail journey. The local people deployed basket-boats for crossing the river.
Meanwhile, the Tungabhadra dam at Hospet was releasing 3,000 cusecs as requested by the district authorities to support the KC canal.
The inflow into the dam declined to 12,000 cusecs while the level stood static at 1,631.91 ft.
The dam authorities would not undertake flood discharge through crest gates if there was no improvement in inflow.
