The arrest of YSR Congress leaders, including party’s district convener Dharmana Padmapriya, turned into a major controversy on Friday with her husband and Narasannapeta MLA, Dharmana Krishnadas, accusing the police personnel of behaving rudely with her.

On the other hand, senior police officials expressed concern over “the rude behaviour” of Mr. Krishnadas who chased the police vehicle and forcibly took away Ms. Padmapriya from the One Town Police Station.

He also reportedly threatened woman Sub-Inspector Narimani with dire consequences.

There was a heated argument and tussle between YSR Congress Party workers and police personnel when Mr. Krishnadas tried to take away Ms. Padmapriya.

The legislator received a minor injury on his hand during the scuffle with the police. Ms. Narimani lodged a complaint in the One-Town Police Station alleging that the MLA obstructed her from performing her duty.

“The arrest of Ms. Padmapriya may be unwarranted but taking her away forcibly is a serious offence. It will be difficult to discharge our duties if people’s representatives take the law into their hands,” said a senior officer.

But, the argument of the YSR Congress leaders is that Narimani had developed a grudge against Ms. Padmapriya when the former was working at Narasannapeta and other places.

“The SI treated my wife inhumanly. I have brought the issue to the notice of the Collector and Superintendent of Police. We will take up the matter with the Chief Minister and the Director-General of Police and will not rest till stern action is taken against the police personnel who treated my wife shabbily,” said the YSR Congress legislator.
