Prabha Shanker Mishra dead

An eminent jurist who served as Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh and Calcutta High Courts, Prabha Shanker Mishra, 72, passed away in a hospital here on Sunday morning after a brief illness.

He is survived by wife, a daughter and son.

Soon as information about his demise spread, several friends including senior officials and advocates, visited his residence on Road No. 25, Jubilee Hills. The last rites will be performed on Monday morning.

Enrolled as an advocate in 1960, he was appointed Judge of the Patna High Court and later got transferred to the Madras High Court in 1990. He was made Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court in May 1995 and continued till October 1997 after which he was posted as Chief Justice of the Kolkata High Court. In 1998, he retired and plunged into work as Senior Counsel at the Supreme Court.

A Master of Science from the Patna University who did his Bachelor’s in Law from the same varsity, Mishra was known for his legal acumen all through his professional service.
