High alert sounded in Andhra Pradesh; Vijayamma and family evicted after staging protest

Climaxing three days of suspense, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) finally arrested YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy in the disproportionate assets case on Sunday night, after police enforced tight restrictions on the movement of vehicles and people all over Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Reddy was arrested at Dilkusha, the Government Guesthouse, at 7.20 p.m. at the end of questioning by CBI sleuths for the third day running and detained there for the night. His arrest was announced after a high alert was sounded across the State by the police to guard against possible backlash by agitated supporters of the YSR Congress Party.

Mr. Reddy (38) is the prime accused in the assets case filed by the CBI and the fifth to be arrested among 75 persons and corporates named in the First Information Report. The investigating agency has so far filed three charge-sheets against the Kadapa MP in the Special Court for CBI cases on the A.P. High Court's directions in a ‘taken up' petition filed by Congress MLA P. Shankar Rao.

The crux of these charges is that a quid pro quo existed between investors who put money into Mr. Reddy's companies, particularly Sakshi daily, in exchange for the largesse doled out by the then government headed by his father, the late Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Mr. Jagan was questioned for nearly 22 hours by the CBI over his role in these transactions. While Mr. Reddy's arrest was imminent, the CBI's decision to take him into custody a day before his scheduled appearance before the CBI special court on Monday raised eyebrows. Sources said top Congress leaders in Delhi were regularly monitoring the developments and had even rushed lawyers to Hyderabad to advise CBI joint director V.V. Lakshminarayana.

New twist to politics

The turn of events is sure to give a new twist to politics and make its impact felt on the June 12 by-elections to 18 Assembly and Nellore Lok Sabha constituency. The Congress has itself suffered collateral damage after the arrest of a Minister, Mopidevi Venkataramana Rao, by the CBI. Five more Ministers fear that they may encounter a similar fate as some of them have already been questioned by the CBI for their role in issuing 26 controversial Government Orders (GOs) bestowing benefits on investors.

These Ministers and eight IAS officers were served notice by the Supreme Court to justify issue of these GOs. Earlier, near curfew-like conditions were clamped by police in several towns and cities, particularly those in Mr. Reddy's native district of Kadapa. Security personnel staged flag marches, forced shopkeepers to down shutters besides asking the APSRTC to drastically curtail bus services. Mr. Reddy will be produced in the special court for CBI cases on Monday. Mr. Reddy's mother and honorary president of YSR Congress, Vijayamma, his wife Bharati, sister Sharmila, and brother-in-law Anil Kumar rushed to the guesthouse to meet him. Later, they staged a a three-hour long dharna outside the guesthouse. However, they were physically removed and bundled into a police van and taken to their residence. Terming the arrest as illegal, the YSR Congress Party has called for a State bandh on Monday. The party spokesman, P N V Prasad, maintained that the arrest was illegal since Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy had expressed his willingness to appear before the CBI on Monday also, but the CBI went ahead with the arrest “on instructions from the Congress High Command.”

Arresting Jagan at this time is anti democratic. Bye elections are
coming in AP and Congress Party therefore, does not want Jagan to
be outside. Therefore Congress plan is that this is the time for
jailing Jagan by CBI. But the calculations of Congress Party and
Sonia in particular will go wrong. People are not interested to
vote for Congress party. They are anti Congress. Last time also
Congress was defeated in all the seats during bye elections. This
is going to be repeated. Congress party is going to loose one more
state now.

kudos to CBI for taking bold step in arresting jagan. then chief minister mr rajasekhar reddy in the name of development and welfare schemes to ordinary people has plundered people's wealth and sent it into the wallets of his only son. only for the sake of some private companies both the father and son allotted so many lands belonging to poor farmers to private persons and to the kith and kin of them thereby causing enormous loss to government that is public. with this arrest at least some justice is living . but CBI should smoke out some more culprits who are enjoying public money and should do impartial justice wihtoug bending his head down to any political chess.

It is very clear that the ruling Congress Govt is playing very dirty politics here. They know that their party will be wiped in the upcoming bi-elections. The government is using CBI as a weapon to arrest any one who is against their party. This is not democratic.

Why have they arrested at the time of elections ? It is just to stop him going to people. It is a fact that Jagan's party is going to sweep the bi-elections and send a strong message to the ruling congress government and the opposion party TDP

We wish that government, Judiciary and CBI keeps the same yard stick for all the maladies that has already happened and are going to happen. If jagan rise from 77 lacs to 354 crores being seen as abnormal so is CBN from no where to the present state. Welfare schemes reaching masses or development visible can not be an aspect to condone the corruption of either YSR or CBN.At the end it is all tax payers money which is going into few hands. The corruption charges can not be attributed to few persons. It is personnel in the system who have occupied responsible positions have allowed such things to happen. It is right thing that is happening that some of the TOP Bureaucrats were taken into custody. They are paying for their irresponsible acts done while doing their duties.

I am happy that atleast one is caught. he did not became 'the richest MP of india' just by doing bussiness definetly he used government money for his purpose. other TDP or congress leaders are not great they are as well corrupt. but as 2G spectrum raja is relased on bail jagan will also get a bail. CBI is working hard day and night to catch these people with evidences and what SC is doing releasing them on bail? such cases should not be postponed. SC should make a fasttrack trail for these cases and make sure that the accused is punished.

The Congress is squarely to be blamed for all the corruption charges framed under the Jagan until 2009; because his father was the CM of the state from 2004 to 2009, and he was in Congress till his death. So, is the Congress ready to accept that YSR cheated the public or it will only tell that Jagan is a cheat and YSR is a martyr/dedicated Congressman?

Just a mere arrest will not do justice for the losses incurred to the
government and the people of this country. A serious punishment only
will do justice and send a right signal to all corrupt politicians.

Jagan Deserve the bars, he and his family looted both Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka(Gali Janardhana Reddy is in Jail now for Illegal mining and illegal assets cases), Awful politician. They looted all tax payers in both states, YSR cheated the Andhrapradesh while he was working as CM. Britishers prisoned Mother India, but these politicians selling her in international market. Do not support these looters under any circumanstances. That is people's money. Why Jagan needed 64 room luxury palace, how can he look after poor people while he is living in luxury palace?

At last, justice is going to win in Jagan's case. He is the person deserved for severe punishment for his illicit looting of exchequer with the blessings of his father. Now, people have to realize the real face of Mr Jagan and also should not fall prey to his crocodile tears. Last but not least, Jagan may be felicitated with an award by name 'the best corrupted person' of the century.

If Jagan is arrested in DA case, what about all the politicians and ministers, eg. Botsa, KCR and family who amassed fortunes. Look at their filed returns of the MLA and MPs. How did they increase their wealth ? from their salary ! The ACB and CBI should investigate whole AP Govt. and confiscate all the wealth , put them in jail and lose the key

Generally, any investigation happens to check how a crime/fraud happened and who's responsible for it.. unfortunately, here investigation is happening to check whether fraud happened or not... So far, CBI hasn't checked illegality of 26 GOs & even Govt itself either supported or opposed the 26 GOs. if these GOs are illegal, they should be cancelled. if they are not, Govt should argue that they are legal... Right from day one, CBI is questioning jagan investments without going into the details of GOs, which is the crux of investigation.

Rules must be applied equally to all and justice be served without fear or favor. Then only the legislative, executive and judicial systems of any country will command love and respect from from the people. For any body, with an iota of a sense of decency and justice, the saga of what is going on in case of Jagan is disgusting and outrageous to say the least. It is nothing but blatantly abusing powers. Did He became corrupt only after leaving the party and daring to stand up to the powers to be? Let the people be given fair chance to judge; after all the elections are around the corner. What is the hurry to arrest him now? Even a lay man can understand the conspiracy and by whom. The people will teach a fitting lesson to unjust powers. Is it a sin to be supported by almost all MLA's of his party to become CM of AP in 2009? Is it a sin to be adored by people who see in him a courageous leader who can face down the bullies and show the the pride, self respect and valor of Telugus?

from:  Surechi
Posted on: May 27, 2012 at 23:45 IST

So what!? He will live a 'comfortable' life in jail; after few months, defense lawyers & CBI won't be able to provide any 'concrete' evidences against him and court allow him bail. Meanwhile, the brilliant CA of Jagan's firm convert all his money into honestly earned. After couple of years, all cases against will be closed. He will continue to contest elections; money and castes factors will make sure he will be politically relevant. Sooner or later he will be the CM of AP. Again. Story continues!!

Everyones knows that they are corrupt, but people vote them to power twice :) :D ..? 77L in 2004, yes none of the politicians declare their assests as per CMP, by 2012 he is out of congress and knows he will be targetted so declared as per CMP. Whatever he is going to be the next CM.

It appears that most of the people commenting upon are infact are unaware of the reasons for arresting Jagan. Jagan has clarified many times in sakshi regarding his assets. People who are criticizing Jagan either belong to Opposition camp led by Chandrababu Naidu who is the king of corruption in Andhra. In fact CBI arrested Jagan without even following any rules and they will have tough time to explain their deed later in a court of law.

Corruption issues involving late YSR Reddy and son is not an isolated event. It is reflection of Indian politics where politics has become another business venture. The electorate which needs to bribed by party funds on election day. Late YSR was probably the most successful fund raiser for Congress party. Where did the party think the funds were coming from ?

When the ACB conducted raids on some liquor shops in several districts in AP a few months ago, they stumbled on note books containing details of the illegal payments made to several excise officials and politicians; neither the ACB nor the state government has made the names public. The ACB continued to raid several officers in the Excise Department but did not nail down a single politician - possibly for want of clearnace from the political higher-ups. None - including the newspapers which carried the stories of the notebooks seized by the ACB - has questioned this inaction. The Government which mouths platitudes of piety when it comes to Jagan doesn't utter a word either; but it meddles directly or indirectly with the postings of the people who were in charge of the raids. Yet no political party questions it; and no Court takes cognizance of this matter su moto. This selective action and inaction against erring politicians leaves the common man doubting the entire system.

I appreciate CBI inthis regard, though a political game played by congress (as many claim)if persons arguing he is not corrupt can whole heartedly say he did not do anything wrong not taking caste, creed, religion, kickbacks or favours they got in one way or other.I don't know why highly qualified and educated people supporting and saying everyone is corrupt but you should not say corrupt people should be elected and become leaders to rule us.

While arresting Jagan is laudable, why doesn't the CBI carry out similar investigations - even without being goaded by a Court - against all other bigger politicians to start with? The simple fact is that Congress managed a political revival in the country itself because of its revival in AP by the sheer dogged efforts of Rajasekhar Reddy when the party had next to no hope in AP. Jagan's brazen efforts to occupy the CM's post after his father's death and the stupendous display of his (father's) popularity by his victory in the MP election and his mother's in the assembly election unnerved the Congress leaders. Hence the vendetta. It is unfortunate that they used the courts for their political ends; it is equally unfortunate that the courts didn't smell the mischief. The Courts could at least have put the fear of law in the hearts of these people by simultaneously asking the CBI to carry out investigations into the affairs of several other political leaders - in the State.

About time! Whatever the reason behind his prosecution (political vendetta as opposed to a genuine reason to tackle corrupt practices) he needs to be arrested and investigated. If the investigation is genuine it will be interesting to see how Mr Jagan will be able to explain his rise over the last 7 years (anyone who believes his newspaper and TV channel brought him this wealth are mistaken). His income was declared as Rs.77 lakhs in 2004. Then in 2012 it had skyrocketed to Rs. 375 crores! Even Steve Jobs, a visionary, did not achieve such success in such a short period of time. It is a pity that ignorant, illiterate people of AP think he is God! Caste equations supporting this questionable individual is sad. Strangely many are using a silly argument that others are corrupt too! For example - Chandrababu, Congress ministers etc. Two rights don't make a wrong. Let them all be investigated and prosecuted. I am against all corruption. By anyone. In any form.
