The AIADMK and its ally the MDMK staged a walkout in the Assembly on Monday protesting against “denial of permission to raise the alleged irregularities in the MoU signed between Tata Realty, the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and Indian Hotels Company Limited.” “There is no essence in their demand. The walkout and intervention may help them run a campaign against the government,” Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said, commenting on the walkout
The Chief Minister said the AIADMK was unreasonably insistent; it had given notice for an adjourning motion only at 9.10 am.
“They have walked out to create an impression as if it were a big issue,” he said adding that when compared to the disproportionate wealth case trial (against AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa) it was not a big issue.
Mr. Karunanidhi said though many members of the House also wanted to discuss why the hearing has been going on for so many years, the Speaker was not in a hurry to allow a discussion.
Earlier, AIADMK deputy leader O. Panneerselvam raised the issue and demanded a discussion.
Speaker R. Avudaiappan denied permission on the ground that the issue was brought to his notice only in the morning.
“It is under my consideration,” he said.
