Valtteri Bottas denies Lewis Hamilton final pole of 2017
Valtteri Bottas denied quadruple world champion team mate Lewis Hamilton the final pole position of the Formula One season on Saturday, leading a Mercedes one-two in Abu Dhabi Grand Prix qualifying. The pole was the Finn's second in a row, after Brazil two weeks ago, and fourth of the campaign. Hamilton had been aiming for his 12th of the year. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel qualified third with Australian Daniel Ricciardo lining up alongside him on the second row of the grid for Red Bull.
Davis cup doubles
France French pair Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Richard Gasquet, who have never played together, took on Belgium’s Joris De Loore and Ruben Bemelmans in the Davis Cup final, with the teams tied at 1-1.
Rahul trains guns on Modi
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in poll-bound Gujarat and alleged that the latter did not want the “truth” behind the multi-crore Rafale deal and Jay Shah issue to come out before the Assembly election in his home State. “I would ask Modiji three questions [on the Rafale deal]. First, is there a difference in the cost of planes in the first and the second contract [signed with a French firm] and did India pay more or less money as per the second contract?” he said. “And, has the industrialist [whose company has formed a joint venture with the French firm], who was given the contract, ever manufactured planes?” he asked while addressing a public gathering in Dahegam in Gandhinagar district.
Elimination of Violence against Women

India reached 312 for two at stumps on day two of the second cricket Test against Sri Lanka in Nagpur on Saturday. Cheteshwar Pujara (121) and Virat Kohli (54) were at the crease at the end of the day's play.

Militants attacked a crowded mosque during Friday prayers in the Sinai Peninsula, setting off explosives, spraying worshippers with gunfire and killing more than 200 people in the deadliest ever attack by Islamic extremists in Egypt.
Alleged child abuse at kindergarten
Beijing police investigating alleged child abuse at a kindergarten run by RYB Education Inc. said on Saturday they had detained a teacher, in the latest scandal to hit China's booming childcare industry. Police in the Chaoyang district said it will further investigate claims of abuse after China's official Xinhua news agency reported this week they were checking allegations that children at the nursery were “reportedly sexually molested, pierced by needles and given unidentified pills.”
Smith frustrates England
Earlier on the third day of the Ashes Test in Brisbane, it was advantage England as Australia slipped to 209 for 7. But England's hopes of securing a lead were dashed because of Australia's captain Steve Smith, who batted watchfully and scored a century to give Australia the advantage. Smith was supported by Pat Cummins who scored 42 and he was unbeaten on 141 with Australia eventually bowled out for 328, giving them a lead of 26.
Trouble in Islamabad
Police and paramilitary forces in Islamabad, Pakistan, moved against the supporters of Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah party early Saturday after a deadline expired at midnight. Police have launched an operation to clear an intersection linking capital Islamabad with the garrison city of Rawalpindi where an Islamist group’s supporters have camped out for the last 20 days. Police lobbed tear gas canisters, surrounding and arresting dozens of protesters who were resisting by throwing stones. The action came after a court ordered the protest to stop saying it has disrupted life.
India build steadily at Nagpur
After bowling Sri Lanka out for 205 on the opening day of the Nagpur Test, India batted patiently on the second morning, with M. Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara blunting the Sri Lankan bowlers. India lost the wicket of K.L Rahul overnight.
