Azarenka defeated

Two-time Grand Slam winner Victoria Azarenka from Belarus crashed out of the French Open in the first round, losing 5-7 5-7 to Katerina Siniakova of Czech Republic. Azarenka had returned to tennis following a legal battle over the custody of her son.

On the fourth anniversary of the NDA government at the Centre, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj held at press conference in New Delhi. She said her Ministry made unprecedented contact with other countries, diaspora, and with Indians in India. She also spoke about passport control, India's relations with other countries and that India has rescued 90,000 Indians in distress worldwide.

Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is in Vietnam for bilateral talks. During her visit Ms. Bishop is also scheduled to open a bridge that Australia helped finance. Australia had contributed $160 million in aid money towards the project, which the then Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced in 2010.

The prohibitory orders clamped under Section 144 of the CrPC in Thoothukudi were lifted on Sunday morning. Normal life has resumed in the city, where a massive protest rally on May 22 against the Sterlite copper unit turned violent and resulted in police firing. Thirteen people died in the police action. Commercial establishments started functioning and bus services are back in full swing. Other vehicular movement is gradually increasing.

South Korean police on Monday summoned the wife of Korean Air Chairman Cho Yang-ho to question her about allegations she abused and assaulted employees. Lee Myung-hee has been accused of physically or verbally abusing more than 10 former and current employees of Cho’s Hanjin conglomerate, the parent of Korean Air. Ms. Lee told reporters she felt “sorry for causing troubles” after arriving at a Seoul police agency for questioning on Monday.

Voting for the Chengannur Assembly by-election began amid tight security at 7 a.m. on Monday. Braving heavy rains, voters including women could be seen queuing up at polling booths across the constituency. No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the constituency, officials said.
