Upset at the Jharkhand developments where the Bharatiya Janata Party president Nitin Gadkari installed a BJP government led by Arjun Munda, senior leader Yashwant Sinha is reported to have resigned as ‘prabhari' (who is in charge of party affairs) in Punjab.
He is reported to have sent in his resignation to Mr. Gadkari, saying he will not be able to devote time to the party affairs in Punjab as he will be tied up with the work of the Standing Committee attached to the Finance Ministry, of which he is the chairman.
Senior leader L.K. Advani had floated the name of Mr. Sinha as a possible chief ministerial candidate for Jharkhand, but apparently he was not considered by Mr. Gadkari as he did not have support in the legislature party. Mr. Advani, on the other hand, had said Mr. Sinha would be able to deliver “good governance” to Jharkhand.
Not only Mr. Sinha, but several other senior leaders were unhappy with the manner in which the Jharkhand developments were handled. Some pointed out that not even a meeting of the Parliamentary Board was called to formally decide on the alliance with the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha or to discuss whether such an alliance was in the long-term interest of the party.
