Madhya Pradesh Industries Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said on Saturday that women should dress in sync with ‘Indian culture’ in order to avoid molestation.

He was speaking about the Guwahati molestation incident, while fielding questions from journalists in Indore. Impropriety in women’s attire was a cause for social deviance. “Women’s attire should evoke respect among others. Unfortunately, women are dressing provocatively, leading to social deviance.”

Mr. Vijayvargiya went a step further, commenting on the dressing style of members of the National Commission of Women who went to Assam to probe the incident.

“From what I saw on television, the NCW members looked like participants of a fashion show. Members of watchdog institutions should conduct themselves with dignity,” he was quoted as saying.
