Despite falling short of numbers in Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday claimed that it would form the next government in the hill state.
“We will play Holi in Uttarakhand...Congress will not be able to form government there,” BJP general secretary Ananth Kumar told reporters here.
With either of the two parties not getting a majority, suspense continues over the government formation in Uttarakhand as both Congress and BJP made efforts to woo Independents and BSP legislators in their bid to muster the required number.
Congress enjoys an edge having got 32 seats against 31 of BJP in the 70-member Assembly where the BJP was so far in power.
Mr. Kumar claimed that with party forming government in Goa and retaining power in Punjab with its ally SAD, the BJP had started celebrating the festival of colours from March 6 itself when results to five assembly polls were declared.
BJP veteran L K Advani, meanwhile, at ‘Holi milan’ programme at his residence, said there is no similar festival like this when people of all strata of society join together and share the fun.
“Few countries in the world have similar festivals which can be used to spread happiness...,” he said.

No one knows who will make government in Uttarakhand but Mr. Khanduri , no doubt, is the best thing happened to Uttarakhand in past 13 years.
The person to whom Mr. khanduri lost is a very well known local leader in that area.
Maj.Gen.B.C.Khanduri is the only hope for the Uttrakhand. He should become the CM so that there is good adminstration and progress in the state.
waiting to see who forms govt in uttarakhand.......
I wish Maj.Gen.B.C.Khanduri continues as Chief Minister of Uttarakhand
to give good administration.
Ananth Kumar has not a good reputation of speaking the truth. Congress would have got 42 seats but got merely 32 as their rebels cut into their votes whereas the BJP lost just one seat on account of their rebels. In other words there was an anti BJP wave in Uttarakhand where the CM Khanduri lost too. In neighbouring UP the BJP got fewer seats than before. In Punjab also the BJP got 12 seats and have lost 6 seats. Yes they won Goa for which I congratulate them. Nitin Gadkari should speak reality like Sonia Gandhi.
What a ridiculous statement! What does he mean by 'we will play Holi'?
Its because of these people that the BJP has not been able to make any
advantage of corrupt Congress. Its high time the BJP also re thinks
about its members and structure. Idiots like Anant Kumar, Yedurapa,
Rajnath Singh should go. Credible people should come in.
When are we going to wake up and smell the coffee - this is causing caveats, potholes, mafiasim and separatism! When can there be a united centralization! Every one has a sound point of view - say it altogether - what's the point of the National Anthem and the Flag!
If BJP, indeed, succeeds in forming its own government there; it will be no less than a miracle. As it is, the chances appear to be loaded against it. But, if it does succeed in its mission, it ought to thank Khanduri for it. He has done a lot to restore the image of BJP in public eyes.
BJP man Anantkumar is not an astute political leader and his words need not be taken seriously. In a place where an impeccable and affable personality like Khanduri is defeated and where BJP has not topped the number game list, eager to form govt. at best is ridiculous. Instead of ruling such ungrateful people, BJP should let it go to Congressmen who can only teach the public a proper lesson.
