Skirting the questions of impropriety in the business dealings of her son-in-law Robert Vadra, Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre here on Thursday and asked it to tackle corruption in the States ruled by it.
Ms. Gandhi refrained from making any comment on the issues raised by India Against Corruption.
Addressing party workers at Nehru maidan, Ms. Gandhi alleged that corruption was rampant in Karnataka, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh, governed by the BJP. She questioned why the BJP had failed to control corruption in these States. The party instead was targeting the UPA on corruption issues, she said. She said that when the UPA sought to enact a legislation to control corruption through the Lok Pal Bill, the BJP had stalled it in Parliament.
Likening corruption to cancer, Ms. Gandhi said it affected poor people. No political party other than the Congress had taken measures to control it. The UPA government brought the Right to Information Act. Many scandals were exposed after the Act came into force, she said.
Defending the government’s decision to allow 51 per cent foreign direct investment in the retail sector, Ms. Gandhi said that it would provide a direct link between the farmer and the market. Consumers could get commodities at lower prices. The policy of the government created more jobs. Criticising the BJP for attacking the Union government over it, Ms. Gandhi alleged that the BJP did not want the welfare of farmers.
The Congress president said that the Union government did not have control over international oil market. The Congress workers from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi participated in the convention. Ms. Gandhi asked the party workers to face the next Assembly election in Karnataka “unitedly.” Later, Ms. Gandhi attended the centenary celebrations of Gokarnanatha Temple at Kudroli.

alternative to the State govts neither can it usurp the functions of
the State govts
However that doesn't mitigate the role of the Congress in not
following the job they're supposed to do and instead trying to make a
quick buck.
However just one question - on the eve of being thrown out by his own
people and armed forces, the Tunisian Prez Ben Ali promised to create
300,000 new jobs to counter the joblessness that was a major cause of
the unrest. The people knew right away that his claim was hollow and
trashed it. Will our people do the same and take like action in 2014?
If we know the politicians cannot govern properly in six decades let the
common people try out some other mode -let all the thinking minds,
caring souls about transparency and accountability propose totally
different methods and by consensus we will try that for few decades
more.

other states . Moreover the Central Govt is UPA so how can u blame State
govt when u have higher power than them .

why is she mum on charges of corruption by her own party and family? Her voice seems to rise only against BJP(not to mean that BJP is pure). By making counter charges on BJP, she seems to be answering the BJP.

stage people who are affected with this incurable disease do not even
come to know that we are affected with it. But when it is in third
stage, it inflicts cruel damage to our body though you can live but you
need to take medicines. The same thing here our in-official prime
minister ji want to let you know.
Either it is BJP or Congress both sail in the same boat no one is
different but inflation rises more rapidly in congress regime. BJP does
politics on communal bases while Congress does it on race bases.
Moreover not only Karnataka's' people are disenchanted with BJP but all Indian people are disenchanted with your center government. Merely two

Mrs gandhi is right,where have the 80,000cr gone.When i was the Assistant Agriculture Sect. in Chikmagular ,the central government had sanctioned 435cr rupees for the farmers and the karnataka milk society.To my suprise till date the project hasent been executed and the Karnataka BJP is attacking the central government for not releasing extra funds.One should also look at the rampant corruption done by the BJP governments.All one should do is ,look at the government reciepts published every year in their Respective state website's.

I don't agree with Sonia Gandhi that corruption is a diseases, a
cancer. Infact cancer is a diseases for which there is no answer.
However, Transparency International has given an apt definition on
corruption and that is "Corruption is the abuse of entrusted power for
private gain. It hurts everyone whose life,livelihood or happiness
depends on the integrity of people in a position of authority". Why
does corruption persist? Basically because of the influence of sin,
wicked world we live in and of Satan the Devil. Sonia Gandhi can refer
to the Bible in Romans 3:9,5:21, 7:17,20,23, 25, Exodus 23:2 and
Revelation 12:9.
The question is when and where? If anything UPA made more scams that too very large
scale even to count. Aam Aadmi can't even count the money swindled and involved.
Ms. Gandhi is taking credit by saying that today the scams are getting unearthed because her government brought the RTI Act, but at the same time, not feeling repentant that most of the recent scams indulged into are by either congress ministers, or ministers of its allies. Coming of the RTI Act into existence is not due to the initiative taken by the congress, as attempted to be made out by her in her speech, but due to the tireless efforts of the social activists. Left to the congress it would have never favored that Act, as is the case presently wherein the PM is trying to curtail its scope.
