India is awaiting a reply from Pakistan on its request to send a team there to question some suspects in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case before it takes a decision on allowing a commission from Islamabad to visit India.

This was stated by Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram here on Tuesday at his monthly press conference.

India had asked Pakistan to allow a team to question some people there suspected to be involved in 26/11. “We are awaiting an answer to the question that we have put forth,'' he said.

Documentary evidence which Pakistan wanted would be provided in the next few days. India, in principle, had agreed to allow a commission from Pakistan to visit here in connection with the 26/11 investigations.

“We just agreed to allow a commission to come to India to record the evidence of the Investigating Officer, the Magistrate who recorded the statements, and some doctors, who conducted the post mortem. We are awaiting a reply to our questions,'' the Minister said.

“It does not mean one way or the other. We will take a view once we get a final and firm answer from Pakistan,'' he added.
