In the backdrop of the deteriorating security situation in Kashmir, Governor of Jammu and Kashmir N.N. Vohra met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.

The situation was discussed at a 45-minute meeting in the Prime Minister’s Office in at South Block.

The violence level reached a new high this week both in south Kashmir and along the Line of Control. Several bank robberies were reported early this week that caused the deaths of policemen in South Kashmir. Following this, security personnel numbering over 3000 launched an eight-hour combing operation in Shopian on Thursday.

Later in the day militants attacked the Army, injuring three personnel.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan continued trading charges over the mutilation of Indian soldiers by a Border Action Team (BAT) of the Pakistan Army.

Army Chief Gen Bipin Rawat warned on Thursday that the Army took “retaliatory measures” after such incidents like they had always done in the past.
