Vessel with 21 Indians hijacked

A vessel with 21-member Indian crew was hijacked on Saturday by Somali pirates at Salalah anchorage in Oman.

M.V. Fairchem Bogey, a Marshall Island-flagged chemical and oil product tanker managed by the M/s Anglo-Eastern Ship Management (I) Private Limited Mumbai was hijacked with 21 Indian seafarers on board, a statement by the Directorate of Shipping said.

“All the crew on the vessel are Indians. It is heading towards Somalia. Oman did try to intervene, but the pirates told them to back off,” Satish Agnihotri, Director-General of Shipping told The Hindu over phone.

Agencies informed

All agencies concerned including the Indian Navy, the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) and others have been informed. The Directorate is monitoring further updates on the situation.
