Neither House of Parliament was able to conduct business smoothly on Tuesday with alleged land proceedings of Robert Vadra, son-in-law of United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, rocking them. In the Rajya Sabha, BJP members created raised slogans against irregularities in the land deal and the ruling party benches countered with slogans of their own. An adjournment followed.
After the House reconvened, Chairman Hamid Ansari, remarked, “If the Honourable Members wish the House to become a federation of anarchists, then it is a different matter.” BJP members demanded that it be expunged.
In the Lok Sabha, while it was the Vadra issue that forced the first adjournment, Left Party members protested against the Kerala solar scam.
Telugu Desam Party members, wearing shirts that said “Save Andhra Pradesh, Save Democracy” kept up a steady tempo of slogan- shouting in both Houses.
In a reference to the alleged land scam in Haryana, Yashwant Sinha (BJP) said, “Though there are several business schools, there is one highly connected person who did not go to any such school but has given a model where no investment is made but windfall gains of thousands of crores are made.”
