Deposed Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat, who was to appear before the Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday for questioning in connection with an alleged sting operation against him, has sought more time from the agency.

“We received a fax message from Mr. Rawat around 11 a.m. asking for more time. The investigating team is yet to take a decision on his request and will issue further summons accordingly,” said a CBI official.

Mr. Rawat is to face the vote of confidence in the Uttarakhand Assembly on Tuesday.

The CBI has instituted a preliminary enquiry to determine the authenticity of the “sting” against Mr. Rawat allegedly showing him offering a deal to rebel Congress MLAs through middlemen.
